Testing the Skippi 650, a regatta boat converted into a cruising boat

The small cruiser from Poland is not a new creation. Rather, its builders have remodelled it. It was originally designed as a thoroughbred regatta boat. Now it is also designed to be fun for cruising sailors.

The bosses at the Warsaw shipyard Skipper Yachts have taken the opposite approach to many in the industry at the moment. Instead of turning a cruiser into a racer, they tried the opposite. The result is a mini cabin cruiser for around 16,000 euros with comparatively good sailing characteristics and a certain degree of living comfort.

The Skippi can't quite hide its roots after all. The light wind racer is nimble and manoeuvrable, but looks fragile. And on extended journeys, it is more likely to remind you of a camping holiday. It will therefore probably only appeal to a very specific group of buyers.

The detailed test reveals what else you can expect from this fast and extremely affordable boat. You can read it in the new issue of YACHT (issue 15/05, available now in magazine shops).
